However, some European nations still have their own distinctive customs, which are distinctive from what we’ve seen here in the Us.

In a typical french town, the man would gather his entourage at his fiancee’s home before escorting her to the service in a procession. While the groomsmen serenaded and even bribed them to let the bride and him into the apartment, her family and friends ceremoniously blocked the house’s entrance. This is called “la cortege”.

Once at the festival, the pair do relax on two purple leather chair underneath a canopy, known as a carre. The parents irish brides would then give them bread and salt, with the food representing success and the water representing difficulties. They’d also break a pair of spectacles, either by stepping on them or throwing them over their back, which represents the tearing of obstacles and unification as a married couple.

Three days before the wedding, families in Greece hold a party known as a krevati where they deposit money on the child’s mattress to promote fertility and prosperity. Likewise, in Sweden, a jar filled with coins would be placed under the bride’s remaining footwear as she walks down the aisle to symbolize riches.
